The Bahamas Joins Other Countries By Banning American Travelers

The Bahamas will begin banning international flights carrying passengers from the United States as soon as Wednesday, July 22 at midnight. The Bahamian government’s decision comes as Coronavirus infection rates soar throughout the United States. Regional airline Bahamasair has already ceased outgoing flights to the United States. Like many countries whose economies are largely supported by tourism, The Bahamas opened their borders prematurely. That understandable decision is one the government now admits was a mistake.

“Since opening borders to international travel on July 1, The Bahamas has unfortunately experienced a deterioration in conditions relative to COVID-19. These restrictions have been put in place to protect the health and wellbeing of both residents and visitors, which remains of primary importance, and to prevent the spread of the virus throughout The Bahamas.”

Travelers from UK, Europe and Canada will still be permitted throughout the Island Of The Bahamas in addition to “private flights and charters from the United States, as well as pleasure craft and yachts.” All visitors will be required to present a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test from a referenced lab, taken no more than 10 days prior to the date of travel to be admitted. Will and Jada Smith are currently enjoying an entanglement-free vacation in The Bahamas. The government’s announcement is not likely to impact their travel plans.
