If you’re Black, buying a slice of pizza from a guy that called you a moulinyan after leaving would likely piss you off. So imagine traveling to a country and spending your dollars with people that found your presence, only because of your race, uncomfortable. Results from a study is helping us develop a general sense of what countries have the least tolerant people.
Respondents in more than 80 different countries were asked to identify kinds of people they would not want as neighbors. Picking from a list, some respondents chose “people of a different race.” If we’re relying on people admitting that they don’t want neighbors of a different race as a qualifier for racial intolerance, you’d likely be surprised to know that Indians and Jordanians are the least tolerant. You might also be surprised to know that the United States of America, despite decades of racial tension, is one of the most tolerant countries in the world … allegedly.
We also want to note before revealing the list that TravelCoterie staff has been to some of the countries and did not encounter anyone we feel would object to having us as neighbors, customers or in some cases, friends. Still, the results are below:
