A List Of Black-Owned Restaurants In Nashville

TravelCoterie is highlighting Black-owned businesses across the United States because we believe it’s imperative for tourists and locals to spend their dollars mindfully. The Black travel movement is about a lot of things and reinvesting into our own communities whenever we can is certainly one of those things. Nashville is a city filled with amazing black-owned restaurants offering everything from barbecue and vegan fare to spicy fried chicken and great beer.

Our list will evolve over time so if we’re missing any spots (new or old), feel free to drop us an email or comment.

He says that he added cheese at the request of many out-of-state Fisk students who frequented the establishment.”

Shugga Hi Bakery & Cafe

Sisters Kathy and Sandra are the owners and creators of Shugga Hi Bakery and Café. “Their love of food began way back when their mother, Catherine, would prepare delicious homemade dinner and desserts for the family. She would always let the girls try a little dessert before their meal, which was always a tasty treat. Sandra greatly admired her mother’s cooking skills and would love to help mama prepare her meals. She soon became quite the chef of her own. While inheriting her mother’s tasty recipes and adding a little twist of her own, Sandra and Kathy decided to build a family legacy and create an opportunity for all of Nashville to experience a little taste of what they were blessed to have as young children. Opening their doors in the summer of 2017, Shugga Hi Bakery and Café brings everything from Mama’s delicious homestyle recipes to Sandra and Kathy’s custom creations. They take pride in treating their guests like family and serving you as if you were at their home dinner table. Keeping Mama’s tradition, it’s always recommended that you have a taste of dessert first before your meal. This one is promised not to spoil your appetite!”

Helen’s Hot Chicken

“Talk about humble beginnings. At Helen’s Hot Chicken, we got our start in a small trailer off the side of the road in Nashville, TN. It didn’t take long for the word to spread and the lines to form. In just a short amount of time, as demand grew for Helen’s Hot Chicken, we grew into multiple locations.

So what makes Helen’s Hot Chicken different? Our specialty is bringing explosive flavors to our chicken, giving it that kick that’ll make you say, ‘It’s Hella Hot and Hella Good!'”

Prince’s Hot Chicken

“Almost 100 years later, a lot has changed in Nashville. But not Prince’s.
